Colored float glass

The production technology of coloured float glass is analogous to that of the colourless float, as, at the beginning of the manufacturing process, metal oxides are added to the main raw materials that give the corresponding colour to the glass – green, blue, bronze.

In addition to their aesthetic function, coloured float glasses are mainly designed to reduce the sun’s heat, UV rays and glare inside the building.

Coloured float glasses achieve their characteristics by absorbing solar energy and that is why sometimes they are called heat-absorbing glasses. This heat absorption quality means that the glass is under thermal stress, so some thicker or darker products may need to be hardened in order to avoid thermal stress breaking.

The coloured glass can be machined, tempered, laminated, bent and used in glazing.

Coloured glasses are used both in construction and in the interior – production of glazing, furniture (countertops, tables, shelves, etc.), for partition walls, railings, etc.

Colours: light green, dark green, light blue, dark blue, navy blue, indigo blue, grey, bronze.

Advantages:

  • Low level of light reflection
  • High solar factor
